I own a small homestead with farm animals and built numerous shelters for the animals to get out of the sun and weather. For the roofs, I was looking for something that was lightweight and easy for a one-man installation (one-man being only me…LOL). I used the ONDURA product I found at Lowes. It took only two sheets to easily and completely cover the goat shelters. I chose this product over tin roofing because I was afraid that rain/hail hitting a tin roof would distress the animals. When I am milking the goats and it is raining it is very peaceful in the barn.
A customer installed green ONDURA corrugated asphalt panels on the roof of a storage shed. Green is one of our most popular colors along with red and brown. ONDURA panels are also available in black. The painting process, during production in the factory, creates a durable layer of weather protection for the sheets.
I choose TUFTEX PolyCarb panels because the system looked to be very easy to assemble, as TUFTEX provides all the parts necessary for completing the job. Using the foam strips, screws and plenty of user supplier examples, I was able to complete the job in less than 5 days.
I have always wanted a greenhouse and an extra storage shed, but I was able to combine them into one great looking structure, and I love the way it looks!
April Wilkerson is an “obsessed DIYer and Woodworker” with an enormous following on YouTube. She likes to build things and show in her videos how she takes on each step in her projects. The videos are informative and insightful — and her positive, can-do attitude is inspirational — as she takes you along for the journey.
She built an outdoor shower and used TUFTEX PolyCarb Translucent White panels for the walls of the shower. We are very pleased with this creative example of how TUFTEX panels can be used for outdoor projects.
We chose ONDURA to re-roof these shelters because we knew the installation would be easier and faster than working with asphalt shingles, and the ONDURA roofs we installed fifteen years ago have held up well and still look good. We re-roofed one of the shelters today that had shingles on it, and one person was able to complete the project with ONDURA in one-fourth the tim eit would have taken with new shingles. And we like the red color, which will help people find these shelters in the densely forested campgrounds.
I built my greenhouse about 7 years ago using TUFTEX PolyCarb Clear panels, and it has turned out to be one of the best projects I have ever done. I love the greenhouse.
Ok, so here it is…. the reason WHY I use TUFTEX?
Honestly, I get asked this so frequently, and have almost predictably become the “TUFTEX Guy” because of the repeat use of these polycarbonate sheets in my work (tiny houses, tree houses, cabins, backyard offices, chicken coops, green houses, and even all my work for HGTV) that I felt I just needed to post my reasoning once and for all. This way, when people ask me this online, I can point them to this little piece here. Pretty clever/lazy, eh?
